Coming to you from a place far more interesting than your work…
This is what middle class faux hippie dinks who never had a gap year do when they stop understanding all the newest music. We’re off jaunting the world disdainfully avoiding the ever so passé first world for something far more socially palatable.
Welcome to our dream year, and yours. Read on and bathe in the staple drive of your fellow common people, good old fashioned jealousy.
We’ve plotted our journey so far, check out our map.
Also use “categories” to navigate around the blog:
- Daily posts check out “While you were working“.
- Summaries of the best photographs see “What you’d rather be seeing“.
- Our top 5 or 10 lists of the countries or continents we’ve been “Top 5/10“.
- And to see additional photographs which mostly aren’t published on here, follow Charlie’s Instagram account “charlieau73“.
- Lastly each country and continent has their own category so go for a browse and enjoy.

Hi team, I hear you are off to Germany soon and may be interested in researching Paul Grosse who came to Australia. Let me know if so and I will send you all the details I have on him via whatever means works best for you.
Hello Charlie and Steve! I am a big big Lao fan and I have to congratulate you to your great blog! I am totally overwhelmed by your fotos – they are just amazing! Can you tell me with what kind of camera did you shoot those pics? I love the sharpness of those fotos! For example that one with your guide in gibbon experience – just perfect. Are you professionel fotographer? I wozld be glad to hear from you!
Hi Thomas, Thank you for your message, we love hearing from people reading the blog. No I am not a professional photographer it is just a hobby but one I love and am loving doing it pretty much everyday as we travel.
I use a Nikon D7000 with three lens: a 35mm ED which I mostly use for portraits, in cities and low light. A 28-300mm VR which I use mostly for animal shots like the ones in Africa. A 12-24mm DX G ED for the landscapes shots.
I also edit all my pictures with Photoshop Express which can help with the sharpness but I love my 35mm as it is brilliantly clear.
